ripe fruit

Record the date of the first ripe fruits of autumn:

  • soft to touch

  • full coloured

  • falling naturally

For elder, blackthorn and bramble this means very dark berries.

For hawthorn, rowan, holly and dog rose this means red berries. They will also feel softer.

Note: birds eating the fruit should not always be taken as an indication of ripeness.
